On July 6, it was reported that Tamil cinema’s legendary music composer Isaigniani Ilayaraja has been nominated as the Rajya Sabha Member of Parliament. President Ram Nath Kovind nominated the veteran and Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to his Twitter to congratulate the latter.
Now, the latest news is that Ilayaraja took oath as a Rajya Sabha member today. He landed in Delhi yesterday and was welcomed by the BJP at the airport. The 2022 Monsoon Session of Parliament started a few days ago. Then, the appointed members of the Rajya Sabha took the pledge which included PT Usha, Veerendra Hegde and screenwriter Vijayendra Prasad.
Though it was earlier rumoured that Ilayaraja won’t be able to take oath in person as he was in America, the maestro made it in time to do the procedures. Rajya Sabha members congratulated him as he took oath in Tamil. The video of Ilayaraja swearing the oath in Tamil has surfaced over the internet and is trending on social media now.
