On Saturday night the YMCA grounds in Nandanam, Chennai was overflowing with celebrities and music lovers who were fortunate to witness the opening day of the "Ilayaraja 75" organized by the Tamil Film Producers Council (TFPC). The crowd was treated to a rarest of rare historical moment as A.R. Rahman took the stage and played the keyboard while Ilayaraja sang "Mandram Vantha Thendraluku" song from 'Mouna Raagam'. He also played the famous theme music of 'Punnagai Mannan' to a thundering response from the crowd.
Ilayaraja reminisced that Rahman has worked with him in close to 500 films to which the latter intervened and said that it is an honor to even work with him for one film. The Isaipuyal joked that the first film he worked for the Maestro was 'Moondram Pirai' and when he first met him it was like being in front of a headmaster. He also once again stated that the discipline of Ilayaraja was what inspired him to also be the same way and break the wrong notion that people had on musicians.
