Music legend Ilaiyaraja has received yet another national honour. He has been awarded Centenary Award for the Indian Film Personality of the Year` in the opening ceremony of the 46th International Film Festival of India (IFFI 2015). The Isaignani received the award from the hands of Arun Jaitley, the Union Minister of Information and Broadcasting, in the event held in Goa today.
Debuting as a music composer with the film Annakili` in 1976, Ilaiyaraja has so far scored music for 1000 Indian feature films, including the yet to be released Tharai Thappattai` directed by Bala. He has won four National awards for music direction, including the first National award instituted for Background score for his work in the Malayalam film Pazhasi Raja`. This would definitely be yet another glittering stone on the crown of the Raja` of Indian Film music.
It is worth recalling that Superstar Rajinikanth received the same award last year.
