A professor from the Mathematics department of IIT Jodhpur has been arrested in Noida Sector 16A after he was accused of raping a former student.
The accused has been identified as 40-year-old Vivek Vijaywargiya, an assistant professor in the Maths department at IIT Jodhpur. He has apparently known the victim for over 10 years and had called her to his guest house in Noida on the pretext of getting her a job. The woman, who reached the location with her resume and other documents, got suspicious when the man asked her how much money he would be willing to pay in order to get a job. He later made a move on her and hit her in the hands and legs when she resisted the advance. The victim, who was found crying by security guards and staff, informed them of the alleged rape. “Following the woman’s complaint, we had been on the lookout for the accused. He was arrested on Saturday afternoon from Sector 16, which he often visits,” an official involved in the case stated.
The accused was reportedly produced before a magistrate after which he was sent to jail. The investigation of the matter is still underway.
