The IIFA Awards 2024 press conference, held at a five-star hotel in Mumbai, was a star-studded affair, featuring industry heavyweights like Karan Johar, Rana Daggubati, Siddhant Chaturvedi, and Abhishek Banerjee. However, it was superstar Shah Rukh Khan who truly captivated the audience with his wit and charm, turning the event into a memorable spectacle.
Khan, known for his sharp humor and effortless charisma, entertained the crowd with his playful banter. He lauded Abhishek Banerjee's performance in "Stree 2" and expressed excitement about the upcoming award ceremony, highlighting performances by Shahid Kapoor, Vicky Kaushal, Janhvi Kapoor, Kriti Sanon, and the legendary Rekha.
When Karan Johar showered him with praise for his association with IIFA, Khan playfully countered, "Itni taarif kar rahe ho par bulaya toh ek hi baar tha! (You're praising so much, but I've been invited only once!)" He then clarified with a laugh, "I am joking. Ab clarify karna padta hai ki joke kar rahe hai! (I have to clarify that I'm joking!)"
Khan's playful jabs continued as he suggested hosting the awards in Borivali or Film City, jokingly referencing more modest venues compared to the grandeur of IIFA. However, he acknowledged the event's expansion to include Malayalam, Kannada, Tamil, Telugu, and Hindi cinema, stating, "This is more Indian than it has ever been before."
The highlight of the press conference came when Khan requested to join the rehearsals, stating that Karan Johar would be rehearsing for his hosting duties on Zoom. Khan then quipped, "Picturein bhi bana, mere bhai. Kitna host karega! (Make a picture of it too, brother. How much will you host?)"
Adding to the lighthearted atmosphere, Rana Daggubati, known for his South Indian background, playfully touched the feet of both Shah Rukh Khan and Karan Johar, saying, "We are fully South Indian. That's how we do it!"
The IIFA Awards 2024, set to be held between September 27 and 29 at Yas Island, Abu Dhabi UAE, promises to be a spectacular event. The press conference, with its dose of humor and star power, has already set the stage for a memorable celebration of Indian cinema.
