IIFA 2016: 'Bajirao Mastani' tops in awards; 'Bajrangi Bhaijaan' is Best Film

One of the grandest of Bollywood events, the International Indian Film Academy Awards unfolded with lots of glitz and glamour in the exquisite locale of Madrid, Spain. Several celebrities graced the 4-day gala show in their best designer attires and many stars shone at the event with their performances, bringing rejoice. Shahid Kapoor and Farhan Akhtar bagged brownies for being very entertaining hosts at IIFA 2016.

Going by the award list.....Sanjay Leela Bhansali's romantic saga 'Bajirao Mastani' won maximum awards - nearly 13 of them - at the 17th IIFA awards. Ranveer Singh bagged Best Actor Award, Bhansali for Best Director and Priyanka Chorpa got award for Best Actor in Supporting Role. Besides this, Priyanka was honoured with the special Woman of the Year award. 'Bajirao Mastani' also earned awards in several other categories including cinematography, costume designing, background score, choreography, special effects, action sequences, sound and production design.

Bollywood's highest grossing blockbuster 'Bajrangi Bhaijaan' received Best Film and Screenplay (Kabir Khan, Parveez Shaikh and V Vijayendra Prasad).

Deepika Padukone took home the IIFA for Best Actress for her role in 'Piku'. This comedy drama by Shoojit Sarcar also bagged Best Story and Best Dialogue (Juhi Chaturvedi).

Another film which bagged more than one award was 'Dum Laga Ke Haisha' for its song, "Moh Moh Ke Dhaage". Varun Grover won the Best Lyrics Awards for the soothing number while Monali Thakur and Papon were honored as lead singers. While Bhumi Pednekar won the Best Debut Actor award.

'Hero' actors Sooraj Pancholi and Athiya Shetty received the Best Debut Couple award. Similarly debutant Vicky Kaushal also won the Best Debut Actor award for 'Masaan'.

While Anil Kapoor got the Best Actor in a Supporting Role for 'Dil Dhadakne Do', Darshan Kumar won the Best Actor in a Negative Role for NH10.
