IG
One of the most cliched news relating to Malayalam cinema may be about Suresh Gopi appearing in a police uniform. He had been doing it for quite a number of times every year and this role of the hero with bombastic dialogues and action had become an only sure success formula for the actor for quite some time.
For this Vishu too, Suresh Gopi has opted for one such role for his new movie. Titled as `IG', the movie has him in the title role of IG Durgaprasd, the chief of the anti terrorist squad of the state. The IG is quickly assigned to pour light into a very unusual murder- the killing of the state home secretary, that too inside his official office. The related enquiry into this event that shook the city, also bring forth a number of interesting facets of Kerala, which is slowly becoming a safe den to international smugglers and terrorists.
Scripted and directed by Unnikrishnan after his super hit `Madambi', the director will be trying to tell something about contemporary situations, in which a minimum number of leaders make money by selling and injecting terrorism in the name of religion. Unnikrishnan says he is trying to say that terrorism is not a by product of a extremists of a single community of faith, but is a result of many who make a living by spreading it for unknown agenda, but for money.
The movie will also feature plenty of artists including senior actor Lakshmi, who will be making a comeback to Malayalam through the film. Also in the cast are Devan, Vijayaraghavan, Jagathy, Rajan P Dev, Kiran Raj, Nandhini, Saikumar and Subair. Cinematographed by Shyamdutt, the movie is edited by Manoj. IG produced by Mahi, will grace the theatres by the first week of April as a Vishu release.
