Kasthoori Raja, hitherto known for his directorial skills, has tried his luck in scoring music. He has composed a total of ten songs for his directorial venture Idhu Kadhal Varum Paruvam.
As the title suggests, the movie is a romantic entertainer dwelling on adolescent love with Kiran making her comeback.
Interestingly, Kasthoori Raja doesn't look a novice in his new role. He has come up music that is sure to woo the youngsters. A mix of hip-hop, melody and racy numbers, he has brought out a talented musician inside him. Job well done, Kasthoori Raja.
Kadhal Kadhal (Anuradha Sriram, Nidhish Gopalan)
A fast paced song with peppy beats. As usual Anuradha Sriram is in prime form rendering the song with elan. Kasthoori Raja has used additional percussion. But for a below average chorus, the song is pleasant to hear.
Kanja (Jaydev)
A song seemingly inspired by Tamil folk numbers. Kasthoori Raja has carefully chosen instruments that would appeal to the frontbenchers. Jaydev has an open throat and can sure sing much better. However the lyrics have been a let down for it is very average and sub-standard.
Sollamalle (Prasanna)
A touch of Yuvan Shankar Raja in Kasthoori Raja's work. A romantic number with peppy and foot-tapping beats. Perfect one for dance floors. The chorus too is appealing.
Kamakani (Jaydev, Saindhavi)
A fusion of Carnatic with the Persian and Arabian kind of music. The song has a catchy rhythm and peppy beats. Saindhavi has done a good job. The thing about her voice is it is compelling in its melody and resonance.
Pathinanju (Nidhish Gopalan, Lavanya)
This is an energetic number dwelling on romance. A rap kind of tune with romantic interludes, it begins on a brisk note, but the momentum is lost in between. However the energy level of Nidhish Gopalan deserves a mention. Lavanya also gives her heart out. And what emerges is a soulful number.
Kakkai (Madhumitha, Kasthooriraja)
Poet Bharathiyar's famous song Kaakai Siraginilae has been re-tuned by Kasthoori Raja, who hums along with Madhumita. Good use of guitar and a mild chorus, which gets going all through the song, are the catchy elements.
Kondameetha (Kasthoori Raja, Pramila)
Supposedly a sensuous and a hot number, the song has Kasthoori Raja himself singing along with Pramila. A typical ganaa song with all percussion instruments used. This is pick of the album for it is racy, hard-hitting rhythms. Kasthoori Raja, the musician and the singer, gives all he has. And it works.
Padapaduthum (Jayadev, Padmalatha)
Resembling more of a choir song, the peppy beats alone providing the difference. It softness is rich and full of pleasant feel. The rhythmic beats and Jayadev's energy level add to the essential attractions.
Yugam (Ishwarya Kishore)
More than the music and the tune, it's the newcomer Ishwarya Kishore's voice which is impressive. Closely resembling that of veteran S Janaki's, she has sung this sensuous number with simple elegance. The song speaks of a woman yearning and craving for her lover by her side. Ishwarya conveys the mood and melody quite sparklingly.
A debut effort for Kasthoorti Raja. But you wouldn't think so listening to the songs.
