The CEO of International Cricket Council (ICC) Dave Richardson announced that there are no dangers to India hosting the 2023 worldcup and 2021 Champion trophy. Earlier, there were questions over India hosting the premier tournament due to tax exemption issues.
When India hosted the 2016 T20 Worldcup, the Indian government had not provided the tax exemption requested by the ICC, and this had lead to ICC informing BCCI to pay 161 crores as compensation, and that failing to pay will lead to India losing the rights to host 2023 Worldcup.
In a recent event of ICC's 5 year partnership with Coca cola, Richardson said that tax exemption is crucial for the game and the ICC, as the revenue earned is practically reused for the game itself, and for instance, will be used to help cricket playing nations like West Indies, where the revenues are lesser. He added that ICC is hopeful of getting the tax exemption as there's still time left, and hence there's no danger of India losing Worldcup hosting rights.
