IAS receives death threats for probing illegal mining

IAS officer and Legal Commissioner U Sagayam said that he was about to submit a report on illegal granite mining in Tamil Nadu and moved the High Court to provide safety for himself and his associates on account of receiving death threats.
The officer has till August 31 to submit his final report of the investigation that began in September 2014. The officer allegedly received two death threats in the mode of letters that have been forwarded to the Madurai Police Commissioner. In one of the letters, the Legal Commissioner was asked to leave immediately or that his corpse would be found in a granite quarry. The officer has also sought an investigation into the death of his associate, who was killed in a car crash on April 2015. The next hearing is on September 15.
