Senior IAS officer Smita Sabharwal has categorically dismissed recent reports circulating in certain media outlets suggesting her imminent deputation to the central government. Taking to the social media platform X, Sabharwal unequivocally termed these claims as totally false and baseless.
In her statement, she addressed the misinformation circulating through certain news channels, asserting, I see some news channels have reported fake news that I am going for central deputation, which is widely circulated. It is totally false and baseless. As an IAS officer of Telangana cadre, I will continue to serve and execute whatever responsibility the Government of Telangana deems fit for me.
The speculations about her potential central deputation surfaced due to her reported absence in a meeting with the new Chief Minister, Revanth Reddy, following the Congress party's victory over BRS, resulting in the formation of the new government in Telangana. Additional rumors suggested that her close association with former CM KCR could make her a target for investigation into corruption allegations related to the Kaleswaram project.
Clarifying her stance and putting an end to the speculations, Sabharwal promptly met Minister Seethakka at the secretariat. Previously serving as the Special Chief Secretary to CMO during KCRâs tenure as Chief Minister, Smita Sabharwal holds the position of Secretary to CM, Govt. of Telangana, and carries additional responsibilities as Secretary, Rural Water Supply Department, and Mission Bhagiratha.
Despite the recent rumors, Smita Sabharwal's unwavering dedication to public service remains evident. With an impressive career trajectory, she secured AIR 4 in the UPSC exam in 2000, making her the youngest woman IAS officer in India. Hailing from Darjeeling, West Bengal, and the daughter of retired Colonel Pranab Das, Smita has consistently demonstrated her commitment to excellence. She completed her education in Hyderabad, where she received her commerce degree from St. Francis University.
Having faced an initial setback by failing the IAS prelims in her first attempt, Smita Sabharwal's perseverance led her to pass the exam on her second try, achieving an incredible rank 4. Throughout her career, she has been posted in various key positions across Telangana, including Warangal, Visakhapatnam, Karimnagar, and Chittoor, showcasing her versatility and leadership in administrative roles.
