Clad in a white shirt, a navy blue blazer, and gray pants, captured Indian Air Force Pilot Abhinandan returned to India late Friday night after spending over 58 hours in Pakistan’s custody.
The Wing Commander arrived at the Attari-Wagah border at 9.15 pm after a delay that was caused due to certain procedures and also because of a recorded video of him that was released and later taken down by the Pakistani government. The IAF, in a quick briefing, said that they were happy to have him back. Abhinandan’s first words upon setting foot in the country were, “It is good to be back in my country.” PM Narendra Modi welcomed the brave pilot with a tweet that read, “Welcome Home Wing Commander Abhinandan! The nation is proud of your exemplary courage. Our armed forces are an inspiration for 130 crore Indians. Vande Mataram!”
Abhinandan Varthaman was captured by the Pakistani Army on Wednesday after his MiG-21 Bison fighter jet was hit by Pakistan Air Force jets near the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir.
