Abhishek Manu Singhvi, Congress leader and lawyer arguing for former Union Minister P Chidambaram today said in the Supreme Court that the CBI’s INX Media case is based on Indrani Mukherjea's evidence and a case diary, suggesting that the case against PC is flimsy.
He refuted the prosecution's charge that PC is not cooperating. "Non cooperation is if the probe agency calls me five times and I don’t go. Non-cooperation is not giving the answer they like to hear. They called P Chidambaram once, and he went. Where is non-cooperation?" Singhvi asked.
On the other hand, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, who is arguing for CBI, contested that the right to interrogate is his duty, duty to his nation under the Code of Criminal Procedure. "We are merely seeking court’s permission to interrogate the accused further," he added.
On his part, PC said that he has answered all the questions posed by the CBI. "Please look at the questions and answers, there are no questions which I have not answered, please read the transcript. They asked, if I have a bank account abroad, I said no, they asked if my son has an account abroad I said yes," the former Home Minister of India has been quoted saying by a news agency.
