Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said on his Twitter account that he ‘bowed’ his head to people who have been supporting the (BJP-led Central) Government’s anti-corruption activities and the demonetization drive launched last November.
Modi announced during an address to the nation on the night of 08th November last year that the existing Rs.500 and Rs.1000 currency notes would become invalid immediately so as to arrest black-money laundering. Old currencies could be exchanged for new ones at Banks/Post Offices, he said adding that it would be tough for people initially but they should cooperate in the overall interest of the country.
Common man was the most affected by the demonetization drive as people lined up in long, never-ending queues outside Banks/ATMs across the country to exchange their old currency notes as well as to withdraw new currencies. Yesterday was the first anniversary of the ‘demonetization’ announcement which the ruling BJP was observing as an ‘anti-black money day’. Opposition parties, though, observed the day as a ‘Black Day’ in the country’s history.
A regular on social networking sites, Modi has tweeted on his Twitter account saying that he ‘bowed’ his head to the people for ‘steadfastly supporting several measures taken by the (Central) Govt. to eradicate corruption and black money’. He also added that war waged by 125 crores of people against black money had become ‘highly successful’. Modi welcomed people’s suggestions in this regard via his NM App.
