In this exclusive interview to IndiaGlitz, Prabhu Deva talks about 'Abhinetri', the changing dancing trends, if he has any regrets in life, why he may not be able to do a 'Nuvvasthanante Nenoddantana' and more.

How did the film fall in place?

When AL Vijay narrated to me the script, it was for another hero. I was to produce it only as wanted by Ganesh. We couldn't take the script to that hero as planned. Ganesh and Vijay happened to tell me I should do that role. Since I knew the story, I said OK.

Dance was not important to the script previously. After I came on board, dance became integral. Dance is getting highlighted because I am part of the movie. But more than dance, it's the story line and emotions that are the nub of the movie.

Why a female-oriented title? Does the film tell any message?

There is a powerful woman's character in the movie. That's why the title 'Abhinetri' is apt. The message is that, in our culture, the wife is everything. It tells the message that we shouldn't be infatuated by transient attractions.

How is this horror different from other films of the genre?

When Vijay told me that although it's a horror movie the devil won't be seen anywhere, I was surprised. I have done this genre for the first time. It's a refreshing movie for many reasons.

What is the premise of 'Abhinetri'?

I play someone who wants to marry a modern girl. Circumstances push me to marry a village girl. As I start liking her, the entry of another character (played by Sonu Sood) makes the matters worse.

So, where is the comedy getting generated?

Since the devil is not seen anywhere, the comedy is not out of the fear that the characters betray. The situations are unique and it's out of them that the comedy is borne.

Since you are a producer, are you tensed about the result?

I am not tensed because I didn't put my money. It's only my name that is there. (Smiles)

What changes do you see in today's dancing trends?

I see a sea change happening. Everybody is extraordinary nowadays. People are exposed to dance shows on TV, etc. I don't know the reasons as to why dancing standards improving. It's a good thing.

You have been a choreographer, an actor, a director, a producer. Which role do you like the most?

I enjoy being a choreographer. Even to this day, I can't sleep when I have to choreograph a song the next day. That gives me so much kick. Even otherwise, I am excited like a child to do anything. Be it when I am going to wear new clothes, watch a film or eat cake, I am excited.

Do you have any regrets?

All of us have one regret or another. But I have no big regrets. We have to experience everything - all emotions - in life. I have no definition of life. Just be happy and don't think about the past.

You have been described as a legend by some.

Perhaps because I have been here for many years, some people are saying that.

NTR has said that he can't do the same kind of dance he did in his 20s. What is your comment?

Anything physical can't be done in the same way as one could do when he was younger. It's the same with sports persons as well.

When are you doing a film like 'Nuvvasthanante Nenoddantana'?

Back then, I had innocence. Now, my mind is corrupted. (Smiles). I became a director by accident. MS Raju garu asked me to direct a movie and I said OK. It all happened in 5 minutes.

Who is your favourite dancer in Tollywood? Which Telugu dances did you enjoy in recent times?

Chiranjeevi garu is my favourite dancer. I would like to pick 'Top lechi poddi' ('Iddarammayilatho'), 'Mega meter' ('Bruce Lee') and 'I wanna follow follow' ('Nannaku Prematho') as my recent favourites.
