Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi today said he is not ashamed of Gopalapuram (where his residence is located) turning into a tinsel town, as his family members and relatives are entering the film industry.

Speaking at the music launch of 'Murattu Kaalai', a film produced by his grand nephew Gunanidhi Amirtham here, he said that cinema production is not an ordinary task. It is acceptable by all and there is no wrong in my family members taking it as profession.

His government is striving hard for the growth of the cinema industry and for the welfare of its workers, the Chief Minister said and recalled that the DMK government had exempted tax for movies with Tamil titles.

Consequently, many have come forward to produce Tamil films, he said. Karunanidhi, who is also a famed scriptwriter, added: When you remake a movie, many would suspect its victory. But the film could taste success if it is remade in a convincing way.

At the function, actor Vikram received the first copy of the film's audio CD from the Chief Minister. Deputy Chief Minister M K Stalin, Tamil Film Producers Council president Rama Narayanan, Film Employees Federation of South India chief V C Guhanathan, producer Karunamoorthy, actor-director R Parthiban, actors Vivek, Suman and others took part.
