Raashi Khanna has a big release coming this Friday. It's 'Touch Chesi Chudu'. In this interview, the star heroine talks about the film, her role, working with Ravi Teja, and more.
What is your character in 'Touch Chesi Chudu'?
Pushpa is her name. Usually, actresses don't get to do comedy in our movies. However, in 'TCC', the case is different. Many seem to believe that I am playing only a glamorous role. But Pushpa is very important to the story. After 'Supreme', I have done a role that has a comic touch. And I like comedy a lot.
How was it working with Ravi Teja?
His inputs were crucial. He asked me to focus on small expressions that can deliver impact. Such tips helped me a lot. They helped me elevate my performance.
He is a positive person. He is quite genuine. After dubbing for the movie, he called me up and told me that my performance will be one of the key highlights in the first half. This is one of the biggest compliments that I have received. I enjoy his company a lot.
Are you going to do comic roles in future, too?
I never waited to bag roles like Bellam Sridevi ('Supreme') and Pushpa. They happened to me, luckily. In 'Toli Prema', my role has no comic touch. Here, you will see other variations. I am enjoying what I am doing in these films. There was a time when I was shy, for example, while doing 'Bengal Tiger'. But now, I am a proper actor.
Is 'TCC' an action film?
It's a family entertainer. In fact, it's a complete package. There is comedy, drama, emotions, etc.
You are quite busy these days in other languages, too.
I am doing a girl-next-door role in Tamil. There is performance plus glamour to it. I am glad to be having back-to-back releases in Telugu and in these two films ('TCC' and 'Toli Prema'), I have done contrasting roles. I am happy for the roles I am getting in other languages. I did 'Villain' in Malayalam last year. In Telugu, it was 'Jai Lava Kusa'. I won't be satisfied with only commercial roles.
Since you are conversing in Telugu fairly well, when are you going to dub for yourself?
I want to do but the thing is dubbing is a time-consuming process. I was shooting for a Tamil movie while the dubbing works for 'TCC' were going on.
Were you asked to put on weight for Tamil movies? How do you see the trend of body-shaming?
I have shed weight for myself. As for body-shaming, there will always be people who will love chubby people and those who will dislike them. Both kinds of people will be there.
Has it been hectic working simultaneously in quite a few films? How do you see your journey thus far? Do you have any Bollywood plans?
It has been hectic. I am enjoying what I am doing. Praise is good. Some people over-praise, though. Genuine appreciation is rare to come by. I am also friends with a few industry people like Rakul Preet Singh. Everyone has their own journey. I am very grateful for where I am. I don't have any Bollywood plans. I am happy to be getting nice roles here. It's also great working with both young actors and senior stars. With the latter, one gets to learn so much.
