Kalyan Ram, who is basking in the success of Pataas is gearing up to continue his good run at the box office with Sher. The film is due for release on October 30. The actor speaks his heart out about the film, family and more in an interview.

How did Sher happen?

Director Mallikarjun has been travelling with me ever since I forayed into films. After Kathi, he has been planning to work with me in a movie and that`s how Sher happened. Believe me Malli has put sincere efforts with great determination for this film and I am hoping that Sher is going to be one of the best films in my career. Every frame in the film reflects Malli`s hard work.

What can the audience expect from Sher?

Sher was launched even before Pataas has hit the floors. But due to some unexpected reasons it was kept in the back burner. After Pataas, we reworked on the script and infused more entertainment in the story. It's a beautiful film and I request the audience to watch it without any expectations.

Brief us about your role...

I play Gautam, a civil engineer who helps father in a construction company. After Om, I stopped working in high-voltage films with lot of twists and turns. Sher has an interesting storyline with linear narration and has a small twist to the tale. Like Pataas, this film has no punch dialogues and revolves around a young man who fights against all the odds for his family.

Why are you shying away from experiments post the debacle of Om?

It's not because that Om became a failure that I stopped attempting experimental films. Frankly speaking, I was disappointed with the result of Om as I predicted it to be a path-breaking hit. It took some time for me to sink in. I realized that too many twists and seriousness had hampered the chances of Om to score a winner at the ticket window.

You are looking very relaxed. Is it because of the reason that you are not the producer of the film?

Not really. I am the same person. I used to be very frank and demanding with the producer. I may or may not be the producer, but people call it as Kalyan Ram`s film. I always ensure that the producer feels comfortable in his own space and having known the difficulties of a producer, I keep discussing about a lot of things share some insights with my producers.

Is it a conscious decision to act in one film a year?

I am trying to increase my pace and planning to do two films a year, provided if I get good scripts!

How do you take the failure of Kick 2?

After being in the tinsel town for so long, I was accustomed to everything. The success or failure of my film doesn`t bother me anymore. If a film hits the bulls` eye, usually we don`t give it much of a thought, but if the film fizzles out, we start thinking about why it failed to meet the expectations.

What`s the reason for your outburst during the audio release of Sher?

I love my family and I always like to be called as a family man. I don't like others pointing their fingers about my character and my family. I am very protective and will always be an emotional man when it comes to my family.

Why did you replace Vanya Mishra with Sonal Chauhan?

After watching the rushes of the film, we realized that Vanya Mishra lack the kind of screen presence we were looking for. I would like to make sure that there is nothing wrong with what she had done. But, at the same time we were looking for something else altogether. We just reshot Vanya`s portions for 10 days on Sonal Chauhan.
