Several journalists have said that Monday night witnessed stray incidents of policemen in Hyderabad misbehaving with scribes during the curfew hours. Some of them were roughed up even though they showed their ID cards.
"Multiple accounts of Hyderabad Police being rude, abusive with journalists have been shared around on WhatsApp. GO No. 45 said media is excluded from the restrictions of lockdown. Why then behave this way?" a journo asked on Twitter.
Serish Nanisetti of 'The Hindu' said, "Multiple reports of journalist colleagues being targeted and harassed by police officials. This is an attack on media freedom. Journalists are just doing their jobs. We are not loitering."
In one instance, a doctor was roughed up by policemen, who suspected him of breaking curfew rules. Dr. Naresh Kumar tweeted out, "This is what happened last night to my fellow doctors, who after completing their duties, were returning home. Even after showing their IDs, the police didn't listen and beat them with lathi as if they are criminals."
