Hyderabad name change: Politicians spar

It's known that BJP MLA Raja Singh from Telangana has controversially noted that the saffron party will change the name of Hyderabad to Bhagyanagaram if voted to power in the Assembly elections. He has also claimed that the names of Secunderabad and Karimnagar will be changed.

Renuka Chaudhary of the Congress has reacted sharply to Raja Singh's comments. "We are proud Hyderabadis. Who is Raja Singh? He should go and change his name instead, no one will object," she said to the MLA from Hyderabad.

Raja Singh, who made several controversial statements during the release of 'Padmaavat' earlier this year, is known to be a crowd-pulling BJP leader. His comments come in the wake of name changes that the Yogi Adityanath government has pulled off in Uttar Pradesh. Allahabad is Prayag Raj and Faizabad district is proposed to be Ayodhya.
