Gadwal Vijayalakshmi today became the Mayor of Hyderabad. The Banjara Hills Corporator belongs to the ruling TRS.

Soon after she was elected for the coveted post, the first citizen of GHMC said that she is very proud. Thanking Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao and Minister and TRS leader KT Rama Rao for choosing women for the posts of both Mayor and Deputy Mayor, Vijayalakshmi said that the safety of women is her top priority.

She wants to redress a number of civic issues as well.

BJP had nominated Veerannagari Radha as its Mayor candidate. The MIM didn't field a candidate and desisted from the contest. M Srilatha Reddy of the TRS is the Deputy Mayor.

Congratulations are pouring in from all quarters. Asaduddin Owaisi of MIM said that he hopes that, under the new leadership, Hyderabad will be taken to new heights and public works will be actively taken up in areas that need them the most, including Old City of Hyderabad.
