Husbands sell wives on rent to rich men

In what may be called a reprehensible practice, a district in India has men who sell the services of their wives to rich men. This medievalistic practice is in rampant practice in the Shivpuri district of Madhya Pradesh, latest reports say.
In a village in the said district, single rich men buy out wives from their husbands in return for thousands or lakhs of rupees. They strike an agreement using stamp papers, although the practice doesn't have legal backing of any sort.
The husbands rent their wives to rich men for a specific period. It can either months or up to a year. At times, it can be just for an hour and the payment is Rs10.
It's not just single men but also married ones who buy wives, says a credible report.
