This Diwali, the people of Delhi can't burn firecrackers. Anyone found bursting firecrackers will be imprisoned for six months.

As per reports, thousands of kilograms of crackers have been seized by the police in implementing the ban. Recently, the Supreme Court of India upheld the ban on the bursting of crackers in Delhi.

The ruling AAP has been receiving flak over the ban. The AAP government in Punjab has been turning a blind eye to the issue of stubble burning by farmers, critics are saying. Quoting a report by monitoring agency SAFAR, a journalist wrote that stubble burning contributed 48% to Delhi's air pollution in 2021.

More than 400 teams of policemen have been formed to implement the cracker ban strictly. Delhi Environment Minister Gopal Rai recently said that the Delhi government has banned the production, storage, sale and burning of firecrackers. "Sale or storage of firecrackers in Delhi can be punished with a fine of Rs 5,000 and/or imprisonment for 3 years," he said.
