Heavy Police deployment again in Marina raises fears

  • IndiaGlitz, [Saturday,January 28 2017]

After a week long protest for conducting Jallikattu, thousands and thousands of student withdrew their protest on Monday (January 23) not before Police resorting to mild force and lathi charge.

Chennai City Police Commissioner George defended the Police action stating tht anti-social elements had infiltrated in the protest while social activists and intellectuals are criticising the police for using violence to disperse the crowd that has been protesting peacefully.

On Friday, Commissioner George announced that no more protests or other such gatherings will be permitted in the entire stretch of Marina Beach. He also pointed out that the Madras High Court has banned any form or protest or political meetings in Marina ten years back itself.

Today hundreds of police personnel have been deployed to guard the entire stretch of Marina from Light House to Napier's Bridge. Sources suggest that the police have acquired information that another protest is being organised and that's why they have deployed the forces beforehand to stop that.

This has raised fears and apprehension in the minds of the public passing the stretch. We dearly hope that the city's tranquillity will be safeguarded.
