'Kanche' is the first South Indian film, which is being made in the backdrop of World War II and a lot of research went into the project. So, how did director Krish conceive the story ? What are the facts that startled him ?
Here is what he has to say.
"When we were shooting 'Vedam', Allu Arjun and I visited Navy museum in Vishakapatnam. We came across a bomb there and learnt that it is the bomb dropped by the Japanese on a ship carrying two thousand tonnes of explosives during Second world war. But fortunately the bomb didn't explode. If the bomb had exploded, it would have created a massive destruction. Until then, I used to think that India has no relation with World War II. But I was startled after knowing about the incident. When we were shooting the Tamil version of 'Vedam', 'Vaanam', we went to Karaikudi in search of locations. We visited a Chettiar house there and we happened to see pictures of soldiers, the medals they received, the certificates sent by Queen Victoria etc. They triggered interest. I understood clearly the role played by India in the World War II. Around 25 lakhs Indian soldiers fought in the war, more than 24 thousand soldiers died, more than 65 thousand soldiers were paralyzed and the whereabouts of 11 thousand soldiers were not known. I decided to tell a beautiful love story in this backdrop. That his how I conceived 'Kanche' story", Krish said.
'Kanche', starring Varun Tej and Pragya Jaiswal in the leads, will be released on October 2nd.
