With controversy surrounding the box-office performance of the Bollywood flick 'Housefull-4' and the Tamil blockbuster 'Bigil', Hindi producer Ronnie Screwvala has called for transparency in the film industry. Taking to Twitter, he said, "Isn’t it time everyone reports Box Office numbers accurately? Accuracy of information builds CREDIBILITY which the movie industry needs so badly ... and not sure how long Studios will keep encouraging pumped up data on numbers to appease egos."
It's held by some that Ronnie was indirectly hitting out at the Akshay Kumar comedy. However, he clarified that his tweet was not directed at any film in particular.
Joining issue, 'Baahubali' producer Shobu Yarlagadda said, "I think it's time all exhibitors report to transparent and independent tracking and reporting agency like everywhere else in the world! Along with that ticket pricing should be free of government price controls! Let markets will decide the fair price!"
It would be great if transparency becomes the order of the day in the industry. But who will reform the system?
