In the times of Covid-19, film cities and TV studios have become all the more indispensable for obvious reasons. Outdoor shoots have become very, very hard. Ramoji Film City, one of the biggest film cities in the world, has been a ray of hope for the Indian film industry.
It is in this light that a major development needs to be seen. As per some unconfirmed reports, the cash-rich Hotstar-Disney has rented the "entire Ramoji film city for the next three years." What does this mean?
The speculation is that Hotstar-Disney is going to have exclusive access to the Hyderabad-based film city. So much so, it can potentially keep others away from RFC for three years.
At the time of writing, there is no official word. Neither RFC nor Hotstar has said anything on the reports.
One thing is for sure. If this deal has indeed come through, as suggested by a few reports, it might indicate that OTT is going to have a larger say in things than ever.
