A fire accident in a hotel at Delhi's Karol Bagh area has consumed 17 lives. About 40 victims have been injured. If most of the victims died due to suffocation, three of them lost their lives when they tried to jump off the building. The dreadful accident took place on Tuesday morning.
As per a statement by KJ Alphons, the Union Tourism Minister, the hotel has a practice of closing down emergency exit doors during nights. This is the reason why the casualties were high. Besides, the doors are narrow.
The hotel is said to have flouted several safety norms. After this accident, other hotels and commercial complexes in the area are expected to come under the scanner of the government departments.
