Actress Shakeela ruled the roost acting in soft porn Malayalam films during the eighties and nineties that gave the superstar heroes Mammootty and Mohan Lal a run for their money at the box office. She later graduated to comedic roles in Kollywood and Tollywood and has held a low profile for a few years now.
In a recent interview Shakeela was asked about the Me Too movement that started when singer Chinmayi made sexual abuse allegations against legendary lyricist Vairamuthu. Shakeela is of the opinion that any girl who is having such a threat should react then and there and it is not very wise to expose those persons after many years.
Regarding her own experiences of sexual abuse Shakeela said that she has faced them and so have many new comers in Tamil cinema. However she has stated that she has dealt with such men in an appropriate manner that even now when they see her they fold their hands in respect.
A biopic is currently made on the life of Shakeela with actress Richa Chadha playing her and Indrajith Lankesh directing.
