Owing to the coronavirus outbreak, the Kerala Government had warned against spreading any rumours or attempting April Fool's day pranks on social media platforms. State Police Chief Loknath Behra had also said that stringent action will be taken against such miscreants.
However, for the past two days a social media post saying 'actor Mohanlal passed away due to coronavirus’ was widely circulated. Later, the state president of Mohanlal Fans and Cultural Welfare Association, Vimal took to his social media page to clarify that the news was fake.
Bringing it to the notice of Kerala police, Vimal shared that the news was generated by a netizen named Sameer. Going by Vimal's post, the miscreant is alleged to have used a movie scene of the actor to spread the fake news.
Vimal had also shared the screenshot of the online complaint he made at the Kerala Police Facebook page. Kerala Police had promptly replied to Vimal to take action against the miscreant.
