A Hindu Munnetra Kazhagam (HMK) functionary was arrested in Tirupur yesterday after he made an offer of giving Rs.1 crore to anyone who beheaded Thirumavalavan, president of Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK).
Thirumavalavan has been accused by Sangh Parivar organizations of attempting to demolish Hindu temples across the State. This allegation came after Thiruma’s speech a few days back when he observed Dr. Ambedkar’s death anniversary as well as the 25th anniversary of the demolition of Babri Majid at the disputed site at Ayodhya in U.P., which was razed down by Kar Sevaks on 06th December, 1992.
Speaking on the occasion and announcing that the day would be observed as ‘Day of Awakening of Muslims’, Thiruma said “Babri Masjid was built at the place where a Ram Temple existed, as claimed by the Sangh Parivar. However, many Hindu temples were built on the ruins of Buddhis Vihars and Jain Temples, as stated by historians. Can we claim that all the temples should be demolished to construct Vihars?”
Condemning Thiruma’s remarks, Gopinath of HMK from Tirupur had reportedly said he would give Rs.1 crore to anyone who beheaded Thirumavalavan. VCK organized protests at many places against Gopinath’s offer after which the police swung into action and arrested the latter.
