It's known that, most recently, a 19-year-old man donated his blood to a pregnant woman at a government hospital in Tamil Nadu's Sattur. It was later discovered that his blood had been infected by HIV. The hospital staff did the unthinkable due to negligence. The issue has shocked the conscience of the society.

Last Wednesday, the donor reportedly consumed rat poison when he came to know that his blood caused HIV to the woman. The Ramanathapuram police have said that he attempted suicide out of guilt. At Rajaji Government Hospital in Madurai, the guilt-stricken donor died due to bleeding.

The victim has been administered antiretroviral therapy (ART) at Madurai Rajaji general hospital ever since it was known that she is HIV positive.

The yet-to-be-born child's health, too, is a matter of concern. Reportedly, the doctors are trying their best to ensure that preventive medications work. The TN government has allotted a plot of land for free to the victim.
