A statement by a Haryana Hindu Swamyji wherein he has urged Hindus to give birth to more children shunning small family norms has sent shock waves across the country. The controversial statement also has the Swamyji stating that the two-child norms need not apply to and restrain Hindus anymore.
Swamy Giriji Maharaj of Haryana was taking part in the two-day seminar organized in Udipi in Karnataka by the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP), part of the ‘Sangh Parivar’ group comprising the RSS and the BJP. Speaking on the occasion, the Swamyji expressed his condemnation of the fact that the Centre insisting only the Hindu couples to follow ‘small family’ norms.
“A uniform civil code should be enacted to be followed throughout the country. I appeal to the Hindus to give birth to at least four children in each family till the uniform civil code is enacted. Already, in view of the family planning control measures, Hindus’ population has come down drastically in many Districts across the country.
“Hindus can no more be restrained with the ‘two-child’ family norm. They need not be restrained at all,” he said. On another note, he defended ‘cow protectors’ across the country and said that only those with criminal backdrops have been depicting them in bad light.
