Actress and politician Khushbu has never feared to express her thoughts even after being targetted by political and religious outfits in the past.

A few years ago, her comments about pre-marital sex stirred up a huge controversy and she had to endure mudslingings and severe mental torture meted out in the name of protest. Now what she has spoken about Thali, the Mangalsutra considered highly sacred by Hindus and Tamils has incurred the wrath of religious outfits.

On September 17, Khushbu while speaking in an event organised to commemorate the 137th birth anniversary of the social reformer EVR Periyar, said that it should be a woman's right to decide whether or not to were a Thali.

Hindu outfits have condemned Kuhsubu's comment on Thali. A group of men belonging to Vishva Hindu Parishad in Kanyakumari, the southern tip of Tamil Nadu have gone far ahead in their reaction. They organised a protest in the city to condemn Khushbu and they also burnt the photographs of the senior actress as a mark of protest.
