When Anjali Chakra, a Hindu based in India, posted pictures of a photoshoot from Durga Puja along with her girlfriend, Sundas Malik, a Muslim based in Pakistan, the internet just about exploded with satisfaction and people cannot stop showing the couple with love and blessings.
The same-sex couple previously went viral after they posted pictures of them holding an umbrella on a rainy day with the backdrop of the beautiful New York City. The adorable girls, clad in red, have taken the internet by storm yet again. Sundas Malik posted pictures of the same on Instagram, along with a note that read, "When Anjali and I went viral, our relationship was politicized beyond our imagination. The Hindu-Muslim, Pakistani-Indian dynamic of our relationship was brought up in most conversations about us. We never really thought the bond we share with each other would be a "mending" barrier between two religions and cultures always in conflict.
Sharing about the kinds of household the two of them grew up in and explaining how Anjali's parents welcomed her into the family with open arms, Sundas further added, "I was brought up in a predominately conservative Sunni household and didn't have many Hindu friends growing up. So attending my first Pujo did make me feel a bit tense at first.
But Anjali and her parents answered all of my inquisitive questions about the different Gods and Goddess and what they represented during the ceremony. I'm excited to learn more about Hinduism as Anjali and I grow together and can't wait to have her celebrate Eid with me!"
