Tamil films facing troubles from religious outfits is no new phenomenon. While it has happened in many of the Kamal Haasan films for the first time a film that is apparently on the cards with Rajinikanth has now earned the opposition of Hindu Munnani.
A couple of days back news reports started surfacing that a Bangalore based businessman and film producer has plans to approach Superstar Rajinikanth to play the lead role in the biopic on Mysore King Tippu Sultan that he plans to make on a grand budget. It is still not clear whether the producer has met Rajini and the actor's acceptance or denial of the offer.
But the news reports suggesting the possibility of such a project with Rajinikanth were enough to Ramagopalan, the founder of Hindu Munnani to voice his opinion against it. The senior right wing leader has insisted that no Tamil film actor should accept an offer to act as Tippu Sultan, as the ruler was responsible for the mass displacement and killing of Tamils and Hindus.
Ramagopalan has further alleged that the film would be an attempt to portray Tippu Sultan as a warrior who struggled for the Indian Independence which was against the truth. He has also cautioned that such a film would not be allowed to be screened anywhere in Tamil Nadu.
