Hindi Medium Review

Expectations

Irrfan Khan is one such actor who has enhanced his acting skills as well as bankability with every film. The actor started his career with small roles and has now made his mark even in International cinema. He returns back into a comical satire after a long time and thus the expectations are decent enough for his fan to go and see 'Hindi Medium'. The topic and trailer both looks contemporary and has a universal theme making it a good choice for the viewers.

Story

'Hindi Medium' is a story of a local businessman Raj (Irrfan Khan) and his beloved wife Meeta (Saba Qamar). Despite of being super rich, Raj and Meeta lack the classy factor and wishes to get their daughter Pia's (Dishita) admission into top English schools of Delhi. Raj and Meeta change their lifestyle and also seek a councilor (Tillotama Shome) help in order to get Pic's admission in top schools. Sadly, Pia misses out in all the top schools and now has only one chance to get admission into the top school of Delhi. For which, Raj and Meeta have to seek admission through poor man's quota under the RTE Act, but things does not work as how Raj and Meeta had expected.

The 'Glitz' Factor

The first half is totally engaging as well as entertaining. There are series of enjoyable scenes featuring Irrfan and Saba. These scenes set the right mood for the second half of the film. The entire first half is breezy as well as full of hilarious dialogues.

The second half starts on the same note with the introduction of Deepak Dobrial's track in the film. This track could have enhanced the comical part in the film, but focus more on the dramatic one.The cinematography is good and matches up with the feel and the mood of the film.

We do have an underrated gem song like ‘Hoor’ and a peppy remix in the form of 'Oh Ho HoHo'. 'Ek Jindari' goes well with the scene in the film.

Director Saket Chaudhary is known for making some witty comical films like 'Pyar Ke Side Effects' and 'Shaadi Ke Side Effects'. His latest film 'Hindi Medium' also has the witty humour and has been brilliantly blended with the theme of the film. The director also succeeds in giving us a satire based on the school admissions.

Irrfan Khan is outstanding in his comic timing and gels brilliantly with his character. Saba Qamar looks beautiful and does full justice to her character. Deepak Dobriyal lends good support and does his part with grace. Dishita Sehgal is sweet. Tillotama Shome is superb in her small cameo.

The 'Non-Glitz' Factor

The film slow down in second half and dilutes the fun element in the film. The finale track is cluttered and unconvincing. The sudden change of heart of Saba in the finale along with Irrfan's decision failed to connect with the flow of the film. Also, the movie tends to become repetitive and a bit preachy towards the finale.

The second half of the film demanded many more such scenes along with an ending which could touch your heart. Out here the efforts seem like half-hearted.

There is not much scope for music in such type of films. 'Suit Suit' is wasted in end credits. Background music is not up to the mark. It's loud and randomly placed. The unconvincing climax seems pretentious and fails to do justice to the theme of the film.

Sanjay Suri, Neha Dhupia, Rajesh Sharma and Amrita Singh are wasted. Tillotama Shome is superb in her small cameo.

Final 'Glitz'

'Hindi Medium' is a good scoring attempt which is worth watching for its theme and great performances.
