Following Union Home Minister Amit Shah's remarks recently on Hindi Diwas, there has been an outcry over the BJP's alleged plans to destroy regional languages and the linguistic diversity of India by bulldozing over with Hindi. A number of regional satraps, including DMK's Stalin and small-time politicians such as Kamal Haasan, have opposed the "Hindi imposition".
In this regard, Union Minister DV Sadananda Gowda has tried to assuage the fears. "Hindi is a unifying language, it doesn't mean it will boss over other regional languages of the country. The 3-language formula is accepted by us all," he said today.
He added that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has spoken about respecting all languages in India on the floor of the Lok Sabha.
