18 year old Indian girl Hima Das created history when she placed first in the 400m at the ongoing IAAF U-20 World Athlestics Championships in the Finland. This is the first time that an Indian has bagged gold at a global track event.
More especially so, one could see tears of joy flowing down Hima’s cheeks as the Indian national anthem played after the medals were awarded. Hima also explained why she was moved to tears: Bringing a medal for the country is the biggest achievement and that is why I am very happy. I am very proud to give this gift to the people of India . . .I wanted the Indian national anthem to be played and making that happen made me cry with joy."
