The Madras High Court has rejected a petition to delay Mari Selvaraj's Maamannan, starring Udhayanidhi Stalin, and given him until June 28 to answer. Maamannan releases Friday, June 29.
Ramasaravanan, a producer, petitioned the court, claiming that DMK Minister and actor Udhayanidhi Stalin had failed to finish filming Angel. The petitioner claims that Udhayandhi agreed to finish filming and dubbing before Maamannan, his final film.
The Madras High Court ordered senior advocate NR Elango, representing Udhayanidhi and Red Giant Movies, to file a rebuttal affidavit by June 28.
Surprisingly, few know the petitioner. IMDB, a popular film website, credits him with only two modest acting roles and no film production. The COVID-19 pandemic and the 2021 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, in which Udhayanidhi won the Chepauk-Triplicane constituency in Chennai, delayed filming, according to the petitioner.
In his appeal, Ramasaravanan claims that Udhayanidhi agreed to finish filming and dubbing Angel before Maamannan. Saravanan wants Rs. 25 crore in damages. He owns OST Films, and Udhayanidhi signed a 70-day call sheet in 2017-18, according to the petition. He added that the actor-politician received Rs 30 lakh to star in Angel. He says that Udhayanidhi had completed 80% of the filming and had eight days left on his call sheet.
