The Telangana High Court on Monday gave a go-ahead to the demolition of the Secretariat building in Hyderabad. The KCR government has now got a green signal for the construction of a new secretariat complex, which will be built on four lakh sq-ft on a budget of about Rs 400 Cr.
The HC, dismissing the PILs that challenged the decision of the TRS government, said that it can't interfere in what the Cabinet decides.
Filing PILs, several petitioners had lamented that the government was undertaking the exorbitant project at a time when the State is reeling under a "severe financial crisis with huge debts." They also added that many buildings in the extant complex were constructed only in recent years.
Prof. PL VishweshwarRao, a petitioner, has told PTI that he will file a review petition or approach the Supreme Court.
The foundation stone for the new complex was laid on June 27, 2019.
