Ram Pothineni is confident that 'Hello Guru Prema Kosame', which is coming on Oct 18, will be a hit. In this interview, he talks about how the project fell into place, his character in it, and more.
How did the film happen?
It all began with Prasanna Kumar saying a rough storyline. I listened to it rather calmly. He gave another narration to me once again after 3 months after developing the full story. This time, I was excited to listen to the narration.
As what do you describe the movie?
This is a family entertainer, basically. We have seen so many family entertainers but 'HGPK' touches upon a new point. The story is such that it has everyone surprised that it has been told in a new angle. I thoroughly enjoyed doing the film throughout.
What's your character in it? The Trailer doesn't give any hint.
I will be seen as a software engineer in the movie. He has migrated to the city from a village. You will see me as a village boy for just five minutes. My look undergoes a change once in the city.
How is this movie different from Trinadha Rao Nakkina's previous outings like 'Nenu Local'?
All the films that the director has done so far are mass-oriented. They are basically comedy and entertainment-driven. But in 'HGPK', you will find a mix of both entertainment and emotions. You won't see the hero challenging someone in this movie. There is an emotional undercurrent throughout. The main point and dialogues are thought-provoking.
What is Prakash Raj doing in between you and the heroine?
The entire story essentially takes place between me, Prakash Raj garu and Anupama Parameswaran. The comedy is situational. There is no separate comedy track as such.
How was it easier to work on the film?
The director and the writer have a very good rapport between them. Trinadha Rao observes a film like an audience. And he explains the characters in detail. I, the director and the writer would discuss every scene in detail before going to the sets.
How do you see the failure of films like 'Hyper' and 'Unnadi Okate Zindagi'?
I don't do films for success. I work towards making every scene a success. If the script works, the film too will. I analyze the result after the film has been made. I discuss my film with those around me.
Your film with Praveen Sattaru was touted to be an expensive action thriller. But it was shelved due to budget issues. What exactly happened?
The film with Praveen Sattaru had to be shelved for some reasons. We will team up in future for sure.
Why do we not see you do 2-3 movies a year?
As an actor, I always want to do as many films as I can. But exciting scripts don't come that easily. It's my Peda Nanna garu who listens to scripts. If he believes that I will like something, then he refers the script to me.
Tell us about working with Dil Raju.
I had been wishing to work with Dil Raju garu ever since 'Rama Rama Krishna Krishna' happened. But we could never find the right script. He being a passionate producer, he wants to do it only right. He is always determined to give the best.
What are yout upcoming movies?
I am listening to a few scripts. I will talk about something only if a project is finalized.
