The decades old story of Dr.Dasari Narayana Rao (that was made in Telugu as Kante Kuthre Kanali) is remade here in Kannada by director Om Saiprakash has an obsolete theme. The sons ditching parents and flying to America and the girl child (she adopts parents after death) doing the final rites is of course an eye opener. The screenplay narration is what deserved to be better. Every scene is predictable in this long drawn out film.
The birth of girl child is ill considers the father of Jyothi (Rekha). Jyothi is given very shabby treatment in the family but that does not deter her from coming out in flying colors in her studies. She disproves all the calculations of her father and becomes an investigative journalist in a private satellite channel. She leaves the house when she finds too much of insult from her father. For a brief stay she comes to the house of Meshtru and Padmavathi (SPB and Lakshmi) whose children are abroad. She becomes very intimate to this family. The marriage proposal in the life of Jyothi breaks up even after paying heavy dowry and she decides to live alone in her life.
She helps her parents when her brother deceives them but all is not well in the house where she is staying. The younger of the two sons of Meshtru and Padmavathi come to the house with the urn of his brother shocks the aged parents. They make humble request to their son to stay back with them that goes in vain. Finally it is Jyothi who take on the responsibility of this family. She goes to the extent of adopting the dead Meshtru and Padmavathi as her parents and does the final rites.
This is a touching film for the women in the society. Those boys who seek material benefits neglecting their parents feel a slap on their face when they watch this film. How money and comforts are given importance instead of humanity and respect to elders is the crux of this film.
There is natural performance from veteran actress Lakshmi. SPB in some places is artificial. Rekha deserved to be better. The technical qualities of the film are poor. Ramesh Bhat as dumb servant has done agood job. Ajay Rao in a touch and go role fails to impress.
Mano Murthy in his poor scorings has copied the tune from 'Hum Ap Ke Hain Kaun'. Cinematography is not up to the mark.
There is a message in the film but it is not effectively routed.
Scoring - 5/10
