On Monday, the Telugu Film Chamber of Commerce held a meeting to discuss issues concerning the film industry. Meanwhile, a video clip in which its secretary Mutyala Ramesh is seen talking about the unsustainably high remunerations charged by actors has surfaced on the Internet.
He is heard lamenting that nobody except heroes is happy with the state of affairs in the Telugu film industry. "Our heroes are happy with what they are getting as fees. They are also comfortable with inflated box office collections. But every other stakeholder is going through a lot of hardship. They are suffering like anything," Ramesh is heard saying in the video.
"Exhibitors are running theatres because they own theatres. Nobody is satisfied. Heroes are doing well. Faking the BO collections is the norm. Sometimes, distributors inflate collections to the tune of 50%. This results in heroes raising their fee for the next film. Their glamour goes up," he added.
The comments prove that heroes remain the most-pampered segment in Tollywood. Their dates and films are sought-after by producers and distributors, respectively, because they are the biggest crowd-pullers. And everyone wants to butter up to impress them.
