Couple of days ago, lots of Indian cinema enthusiasts became excited upon hearing the news about 'Soorarai Pottru' being in the Oscars race. The reality is a bit complex. Although the film is in Academy Screening Room, there is still a long road to go before even getting nominated. It has to Garner a lot of votes to get to the next round and then some more to get nominated.
This is what producer Rajsekar Pandian tweeted, "Happy Republic Day! #SooraraiPottru joins OSCARS under General Category in Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Director, Best Original Score & other categories! The film has been made available in the Academy Screening Room today."
The Academy Screening Room is a paid service where filmmakers from across the globe can submit their projects for screening. A fee of $12,500 (plus the cost of watermarking) is charged and the film is submitted for scrutiny.
