A man from Florida was decapitated by a spinning helicopter blade while he was performing maintenance work near the Brooksville-Tampa Bay Regional Airport in Brooksville.
According to the officials, a 911 caller stated that the helicopter suddenly jerked up and came down due to an unknown reason when he was using a power cart to jumpstart the aircraft along with another person. The motion allegedly caused the main rotor blades to strike 62-year-old Salvatore Disi in the head, killing him instantly.
The helicopter was apparently used by Dr. Alfred Bonati of the Bonati Spine Institute in Hudson, which is 20 miles southwest of the airport. One of the officers reported that even though they didn’t suspect a foul play, the matter is still under investigation. “Obviously a death that is a little bit unusual... and we want to make sure we have all the answers. It's tragic that those individuals are not going to be able to give their loved one a hug again,” officer Nienhuis said in a statement.
