The Indian Metrological Department(IMD) on Wednesday predicted enhanced rainfall activity over south peninsular India during 11 -13 November. The weather department stated that this is going to occur due to a Low Pressure Area that has formed over Southwest Bay of Bengal and the adjoining Equatorial Indian Ocean.
It is expected to move northwesterly and approach the coast between Tamil Nadu and Puducherry on 11th. Due to this, it has been reported that Tamil Nadu will receive moderate rain today and heavy rain tomorrow.
IMD has issued an orange alert to be prepared for very heavy rainfall over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, and Rayalaseema on 11 and 12 November. “A cyclonic circulation lies over Southwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining Equatorial Indian Ocean and extends up to 4.5 km above mean sea level. Under its influence, a low-pressure area is likely to form over the same region during the next 48 hours. It may move northwestwards towards TN - UT coasts during November 9-11,” the RMC said.
The weather department warned that squally weather with a wind speed reaching 45-55 kmph and gusting to 65 kmph is very likely to prevail over Southwest and adjoining West-central Bay of Bengal, Gulf of Mannar, Comorin area and along Tamil Nadu during 9-12 November. The Chennai Meteorological Department has informed us that there is a possibility of heavy rain or very heavy rain in Tamil Nadu for the next three days starting from the 11th.
