Veteran director K Raghavendra Rao, a contemporary of Dasari, has described the demised director as the captain of the Telugu film industry.

"A director is considered the captain of a film. With his leadership qualities, Sri Dasari Narayana Rao garu functioned as the captain of the film industry itself. His death is an irreparable loss. Praying that his soul rests in peace, I convey my deepest condolences to his family members and fans," KRR said in a statement.

Dasari and KRR were united by their versatility and the ability to dabble in a range of genres. Prolific and immensely successful, the two directors are regarded as two of India's most creatively fecund makers.
