The Telangana High Court on Friday questioned the K Chandrasekhar Rao government over the bona fides of the fatality data related to COVID-19. With the State reporting not more than 10 deaths on a daily basis, the HC has expressed skepticism in questioning the veracity of official figures.
"How come deaths are only 8 or 9 a day since March 31? It seems deaths have been deliberately underreported," the court reportedly said. The court also said that the State hasn't been following some court directives in fighting the health emergency. "The government has been instructed to submit the steps it has taken under the state and district-level planning strategy as warranted by the Disaster Management Act," a lawyer said in a video.
A petition had urged the court to direct the government to reveal the budgetary figures related to the healthcare sector before and after the pandemic.
The government has been directed to submit a report on how much money has been spent on public health since March 24.
The court has been adjourned to September 24 in this regard.
