The High Court of Madras has directed the Tiruchengode Police to file a case against Srivilliputhur Jeeyar if there was ‘sufficient ground’ to do so in response to the latter’s talk of ‘throwing bottles’.
Vairavel of Namakkal had earlier moved the High Court of Madras by filing a petition stating that the Jeeyar had remarked on 26th January while addressing a meeting at Tiruchengode stating that he also knew about the tactic of ‘throwing bottles’ at others. Vairavel had stated that action ought to be taken against the Jeeyar (seer) – a religious head – for inciting violence.
Earlier, Justice M.S. Ramesh of the High Court of Madras, who had taken up the interrogation of the petition last week, had directed the Tiruchengode to file a reply by 20th February (yesterday).
When the case came up for hearing yesterday, the High Court of Madras directed the Tiruchengode Police to go ahead and register a case against Sadagopa Ramanuja Jeeyar if there was ‘sufficient ground’ to do so.
